Engineer Dies In Maine Central Bridge Accident

Chief Engineer William A. Allen of the Maine Central railroad died after the Lewiston Falls bridge incident. He was inspecting bridge work on the rear platform when the train neared the falls, his head struck an upright stanchion, and he was swept by rapids toward West Pitch, plunging and vanishing near jagged rocks. Allen led the Maine Central construction department.

Harpers County Murder Case Tied to Wife’s Confession

Charles Rodman was slain February 28 near his barn prompting a $1,400 reward by state and county officials. Sheriff Miller Under Sheriff Bodley and Constable Raymond arrested William Mattox and Charles Clark, after Mrs Rodman confessed she hired them and paid Clark 50 dollars for the deed. Mattox a respected farmer and Clark, living with Mattox since September, face murder charges.
