Nations gather in tribute to fallen soldiers and officials from many countries lead ceremonies. Dignitaries pay respects as wreaths are laid and speeches mark a solemn memorial for those who died in service.
At Washington on September 7 the funeral for President McKinley drew crowds and dignitaries. Ex presidents Grover Cleveland and Theodore Roosevelt attended, while McKinley’s widow remained at the White House. The silent procession moved from the White House to the Capitol, with military honors and state figures paying tribute to the late leader.
A vast mourning crowd fills the Capitol approach as dignitaries and veterans line the streets. Adm Dewey arrives in full navy dress while the funeral party moves to the rotunda. Soldiers and a naval band precede the casket, draped in black with the hymn Nearer My God to Thee played softly.
Washington September 15 funeral services at the Capitol over the late President McKinley were ample and beautiful in the Methodist form. Officers and dignitaries led by General Gillespie and Admiral Dewey attended as the casket lay in the rotunda with the Marine band and the choir singing Nearer My God to Thee. President Roosevelt and former President Cleveland appeared among the mourners as crowds gathered in quiet reverence.

Admiral Evans placed a blue cross by the casket as Roosevelt and others filed out amid crowd crush and medical aid for fainting attendees. The procession then moved to the White House en route to Canton.
President Cleveland arrived in Washington to attend the obsequies of the late president. He traveled with Vice President Bargent, the secretary of War, and other officials, reaching the capital at 4.05 this morning aboard Lamont's car Yellowstone.

Joseph A. Willmith United Brethren minister was tarred and feathered in Huntington last night after a Sunday prayer meeting. Witnesses say an angry mob confronted him near Bees City church with threats and a crude act of violence as he spoke about religious doubts.
Ribble and Remery plan two gangs of pavement livers to push contracts in the city before winter. One gang to be moved from Lawrence within days, with crews working in separate town areas to speed completion. Early fall expectations raise doubts about finishing all paving this year.
