Wasurscrow May 31 The treasury statement to be issued today shows expenditures for the first six months of the current fiscal year exceed receipts by 72 million dollars. The year end deficit is about 78 million dollars with receipts at 289 million and expenditures at 340 million.
Reported plan by Populist chairman John W Hreidenthal calls for farmers within 75 miles of Topeka to flood the state convention with 5000 teams and wagons. They will camp on the state house grounds the night before and march through Kansas Avenue in a Keep of the Grass parade badges. Also notes Spain bondholders and safe holders seek government aid amid high exchange rates.
Bill Higgins in Topeka discusses prospective state convention leaders and nominees He favors Cy Leland for state central committee chair and calls for J E Moore as temporary chairman Peters as permanent chairman and predicts Troutman possible governor nomination while noting his own priorities and location from Shawnee county delegates.

They will stop in Maysville for a day before proceeding past Wheeling over six days at an estimated cost of 210.
A Spokane Wis telegram says Coucuilly village dam broke causing a flood resembling Johnstown. One life confirmed lost, that of Mrs Keith. village lies in a canyon about a hundred feet wide. property loss estimated but not specified.
In St Louis on May 31 the commonweal party led by Gen Kelly divided as 500 men under George L Spead of California planned to march or float separately. Police arrested Wm McMichaels for selling liquor from a Kansas Avenue stand, while Weather Observer T B Jennings warns of a Colorado storm likely reaching Topeka tomorrow. The president approved a bill for selling the remaining Utice reservation lands in Nebraska and Kansas. Gold exports today total 2 million dollars. Sewer district 16 appraisers audit plans for council with boundaries Tenth Thirteenth Jefferson Quincy and Eighth. Waldo Park road race results place E J Rawson seventh in the 10 mile race. Johnnie McTaffin seventeenth with a $3.50 prize knife and bicycle suit.
Heavy rainfall across eastern Colorado triggers record floods. Water breaches levees in Pueblo, flooding hundreds of residences and crippling rail lines. Rescuers in boats save residents as roads including Santa Fe and Rock Island wash out. Damages mount with Pueblo estimated at $3,000,000 while lines to Denver and beyond stay blocked.
Purn.o Colorado May 31 heavy rainfall across the state sparks the worst flood on record. Arkansas River breaches levees in six spots, flooding areas three quarters of a mile square. City residents rely on boats to move families and goods as water rises past first floors. Five rail routes are halted by washouts and wrecked bridges, with northward communication down. Pueblo reports flood losses estimated up to 8 million dollars with thousands homeless. Four breaks in the north levee and two on the south side flood areas from Eighth Street to the river and beyond Union Avenue. Water seeping through west side neighborhoods drives evacuation while the Arkansas River surges, levee gaps widen, and infrastructure including the Fourth Street viaduct deteriorates.
Widespread flooding reports from Denver to Pueblo describe water several feet deep along streets, with residents fleeing homes and seeking higher ground.
