A severe wind and hail storm battered Emronta Reading Lebo Melvern Comiskey Ravine Keating and nearby areas. Destruction included shattered windows, damaged churchs, downed roofs, ruined crops, and livestock injuries though no fatalities were confirmed. Affected towns reported heavy rain, strong winds, and scattered wreckage.
Terrific hail and cyclone-like winds sweep southern Osage County and the Cygnes valley causing crop washouts and destroyed fruit. Telegraph lines and poles down, train work crews deployed. West Wichita reports many houses struck by lightning, some occupants knocked senseless, and widespread damage to outbuildings.
Burlington reports heavy winds with no rain and a water spout near Comisky leaving crops washed out and transport difficult. Americus experiences very heavy rain and wind with bridges washed out and widespread damage. Fort Scott notes many damaged houses and outbuildings. dead wildlife found this morning. A storm line following the state line brings destruction to vegetation and orchards with a severe accompanying wind.
State Board of Charities declared Superintendent Hitchcock at the state reform school not guilty of charges of inattention and misconduct after an April to May inquiry. Noah Allen and others contested, with leaks and plans for further action despite Mrs Lease abstaining from voting.

A theft of part of his liquor and cigars prompts a demand that Encina hall residents pay $35 to cover losses. Taxes on the boarders follow, with the college paper joining in the dispute.
At a Woman Suffrage gathering in Kansas City May 6, a 20 square foot plaster section in the rear fell with a rasping crash. Shrieks arose as crowds surged toward exits but no serious injuries followed. Miss Anha Shaw and Mrs. Laura M. Julins helped restore calm.
The Dodge City to Montezuma & Trinidad railway failed to pay expenses and was abandoned. Promoter A T Soule spent over 200000 building the road, which never operated under prior management. The decision denies a writ to compel replacement and operation. George Griffith tours Winnipeg hoping to beat Nellie Bly. Local news notes anti option bill progress and Kansas market reports from Ravens City and surrounding areas. Ben Williams, Wm Slater and Mors leece in Emporis a¢ winterries. A color train goes on car now the Santa Fe plaintiff seeks $5,100.
