Wilson, a Black man, had been convicted of murder while in the Philippines volunteer army and sentenced to be shot. Gannon faced an 18 year sentence for arson and robbery with bail set at 3000 dollars. unable to post, he remained in jail awaiting Supreme Court action.

Smallpox has broken out at the State Industrial School for Boys. Eight cases are reported among staff and pupils, with seven patients from the school and one employee.
