Election Boards Tilt as Parties Contend Over Precinct Majorities

The article details how election law and a secretary of state opinion could assign board seats by precinct majorities, likely favoring Republicans with two judges and a clerk, Democrats with one judge and one clerk, and excluding Populists from boards. About 2400 precincts exist. Republicans control 1400, Democrats 800, Populists 400. Secretary Curren hopes Populist precinct trustees can offset losses locally.

Water pressure gauge aids city fire service records

A new water pressure gauge at the fire department links to the pumping station. It records pressure every minute for ten minutes then every five, allowing officials to verify whether the water company delivers the claimed pressure during fires. The system helps identify pressure shortfalls and links incidents to past failures, such as a cold night that hindered a blaze at Palace Clothing Store. It also notes a related district federation meeting of Sixth District women’s clubs held in Smith Center with plans to hold future events in Beloit.
