In Atlanta a large audience greeted William J Bryan as he spoke at the tabernacle. The crowd rose to frenzied cheers while he urged readiness to defend the country, invoking unity of the north and south and warning of foreign landings.
A loading boat and divers trialed a torpedo near the harbor with a cable connected to an anchor. The diver moved the device to the anchor and surfaced as the tug withdrew. Washington reports that in London the sale of two fine cruisers to the Heazillan Government has closed. Spanish agents were said to covet the ships, valuing them higher for Spain than for the United States. The navy secretary notes the next step is returning the ships home. The Amazonas will be manned and sent to the United States within a week, with other vessels to follow. Sale terms remain secret.

Fred Holy, a Chicago watchmaker, sat in Maxwell police custody claiming 46 prior prison terms on accusations by his wife Mrs Holy. He faces a charge of stealing 30 from her and says he fears police and patrol wagons. He had obtained a divorce several months earlier and awaits arraignment.
The Santa Fe steel dam in Johnson Canon near Ash Fork is now full of water, standing 40 feet high with a 3060 foot backwater. Mortgagee total estimated at about 19,006,000 with the middle division around 44,500. The road was sold in accordance with terms and confirmed for transfer to the new Union Pacific corporation.
