Washington July 25 Thomas B Watson of Thomasville Ga was born in Columbia County Georgia September 6 1856 He attended Mercer College but left for lack of funds He studied law and began practice at Thomasville He served in the 53rd Congress as a Democrat and also ran for the 54th as a Populist Known for fiery debates in the House his thin angular frame and auburn hair were noted in portraits.
Charles D. Lane of California was elected chairman of the new national committee of the silver party at a post convention meeting in St Louis. NL Brecens of Colorado became secretary. The committee names include Thompson of Portland as envoy to Japan and J M Hawthorn of St Paul to Mexico for their silver policy probes.
Lincoln dow 23 Mr Bryan expressed gratification at the nomination by the Silver Convention in St Louis He said he appreciates the nomination and the unanimity and views it as evidence delegates favor restoring bimetallism He added that they will support the Chicago ticket despite minor disagreements beyond that issue
Bath July 2 Arthur Sewall Democratic candidate for vice president declines to comment on the Populist convention nominating Watson. he says it is better to wait and see the dual action of the Populist convention. Senator Jones in Louis July 21 reports Democratic national reaction.
A telegraph from St Louis dated July asks William J Bryan if he will accept Populist nomination for president on the party platform. The message is directed to Hon W J Bryan in Lincoln Nebraska and mentions W Williams as delegate at large. Dispatch carries instructions from Texas telegraph office.
A telegram exchange from July 24 shows Chairman Jones of the National Democratic Committee in Lincoln Neb arguing with William J Beyan about nominating Sewall as vice president. Jones hints at withdrawing if Sewall is not nominated while Beyan supports declination.
Bawin M. Cow Ung, bookkeeper for Woodward Paxson and Co wholesale division, was arrested in Kansas City for embezzling about 1400 dollars from January 1 this year through May. Frank A. Faxon and J. C. Horton filed the complaint. The amount involved may exceed 5000 if misappropriations extend. The firm will audit accounts to determine the total. Cowling was jailed pending further proceedings.

The Throoy Hotel Company receivers of the Inventnant Trust company for 31, land in section 1, township 18, range 15.
Reports but unclear language describe bridge bond withdrawal by county commissioners and related school fund investments totaling about 700000. Also noted is Byington-Miller case with O A Gluston v Miller et al in Cle Gietriot court over transfer of land and a judgment around 7000. Miller accused of cattle company manipulation and misallocation.
