Judge Parker led the initial roll call with only a few votes against him, then a stampede of support followed as states swiftly backed his nomination. The rapid shift indicated strong momentum for Parker in the early phase of the voting.
At dawn in St. Louis Judge Afton B. Parker of the New York Court of Appeals was nominated for president by the Democratic National Convention after a long, tense night of speeches and balloting. William Jennings Bryan spoke in favor of Senator Cockrell, while Parker’s supporters conducted a disciplined, energized push leading to an official roll call and unanimous support for Parker.
Weather notes show Topeka and Kansas warming toward a comfortable level despite recent rain. Humidity remains high with sticky conditions across the state. Western counties enjoy clear to partly cloudy skies while showers intensify at Wichita, McPherson, and Lamar Missouri. General forecast calls for fair tonight and Sunday with warmer southeastern portions. winds from the east at about five miles per hour. Washington reports Minister Conger cabled that the Chinese government after a full inquiry orders punishment for the officer and soldiers who killed Louis Etzel the newspaper correspondent. It also agrees to pay 25000 Mexican indemnity to be turned over to the state department for Etzel's widow and mother in Denver and to other family members per the dead man’s administrator.
Oberlin Kansas July 9 The Farmers National Bank of Oberlin recently succeeding the Farmers State Bank numbers among its stockholders many leading state figures. Included are Chas J Devlin editor of a Topeka newspaper, Row Rock Island general solicitor, A einbercen Interstate National Bank Norton secretary J R Burrow of Smith Center and Chas M Sawyer of Norton, all well known to bankers statewide.

Reports show Kaw river level steady at Manhattan and about six inches rise at Wamego with no rain. Topeka flood readings fall from a peak earlier, railroad routes reopen gradually, trains rerouted via Ottawa and Kansas City. North Topeka residents return as damage tallies rise for farms and bridges along Kaw valley.
Professor Gleason resumes demonstrations at the fairgrounds after weather delays. He plans a new program featuring the most vicious horses, including two full thoroughbreds that are kickers, and a lecture on horseshoeing. Marshall's band will perform from 7:80 to 8:15, admission ten cents with extra seating charges.
