Died Hand in Hand Two Boys Drown In River Near Santa Fe Bridge

John Deegan aged 11 and Michael Cabaltine aged 12 drowned Tuesday afternoon around 5 delook while swimming in the river near the Santa Fe railroad bridge. They waded in together hand in hand and likely one stepped in a hole, pulling the other under. Searchers found Deegan’s body later near the scene. Both fathers work at the Santa Fe shop in North Topeka.
