Conductor James Donahue of the Santa Fe, long based in Topeka, suffered severe injuries in the Holliday yard accident while serving a freight out of Argentine for Emporia. Man Hurt In Rapid Train Jump At Rock Island Depot
Sherman Peffer, son of ex senator W A Peffer, was seriously injured when he jumped from a moving Rock Island train near the depot while attempting to reach a friend. He struck his head and shoulders and lay unconscious until help arrived. He later regained consciousness and was taken home. The incident left head injuries and a sprained limb.
