George Sharitt, clerk of the federal court, leaves tomorrow for Texas in Santa Fe special car 101 to transport Federal District Judge C. G. Foster to Topeka. Sharitt travels with his wife and daughter Su cie, and with District Attorney W C Perry and Mrs Perry. The train runs via Houston and San Antonio to Galveston where Foster has wintered since November 16. Return will be over the M K & T. Doubts persist about Foster health with conflicting reports on his condition.
The governor said the Vance successor would likely be chosen next Friday and would favor the Wilson bill free silver and the income tax. The Richmond and Danville train bore the late Senator Vance’s body to Raleigh, greeted by thousands as it arrived. The body was turned over to state authorities and escorted to the capitol by the military and Confederate veterans amid tolling bells and black-draped streets. The train departed at 4:30 for Asheville to inter the statesman with ceremony.
Denver April 15 Coxey's Colorado contingent about 110 men attempted to seize an eastbound freight but officers intercepted before it moved. The group marched two miles in sleet to Union Pacific round house at 40th and Lavine where they stayed all night hoping for a freight. On April 18 at Gourmere Oklahoma the army is reported as about 300 with plans for box cars on Santa Fe and Rock Island routes at five dollars per head for transport.
Kansas railroad commissioners hear speeches from Senator Leedy and other proponents of lower freight rates as traffic managers of major lines, including Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific, face petitions from farmers and grain dealers.
