Forty More Enrolled for the Service

Forty more youth men were enrolled in the draft arms with more likely from Dougue after examinations by the county examining board at YoMO ALinishee yesterday. County officials Hay Bh Krebs Sheriff Marty C Wheeler and D C Hunt oversaw the process as 40 passed physical exams. Twenty eight were examined. two hundred and eighteen men were examined overall with nine percent rejected for physical defects. Dentists offered to treat defects to enable enlistment.

Hunt Almost Lynched by Globe Miami District Mob

Ex-Governor Hunt returned to Phoenix from El Paso and Columbus New Mexico and told friends that federal troops stopped a lynching attempt by company sympathizers while he was in the Globe Miami district.

Clemency Granted to Four Prisoners in Arizona

Governor Campbell issued paroles and commutations for four inmates after long road-camp service. Viuma Aigia received a parole effective October 19, 1917 from an April 11 1917 sentence, while Refugio Encinas was given conditional parole to take effect November 1 1917. Severiano Anaya got a commutation to ten years from April 24 1912 sentence, and Apache Indian received a commutation to fifteen years from December 34 1911 natural life sentence.

Hayden protests low copper price to protect miners

Washington report says Congressman Curt Hayden urged War Industries Board to fix copper prices without cutting miners wages. Phoenix September 1 The state ad rnal was advised by the war department that Arizona selective draft troops will be trained at Fort Leavenworth Kansas The adjutant general was instructed that the first draft of 1 per cent of the state's quota of 3472 will not be sent in a body to the training camp on September 5 but will depart in stages over subsequent days to ease transportation.

Doctor Randolph Ordered to Report for Active Service

Dr. W. M. Randolph, long time physician for the Banker Hill Mines Company, has been ordered to report at Douglas for active duty with the 17th Cavalry in the Medical Reserve Corps. Smugglers of Ammunition Taken in Custody

Van Curtis, a government special agent, arrested three men Paul Carrigan C A Brown and PF Trible after more than 5000 rounds of revolver and rifle ammunition were found in their Winkelman bound automobile. Trible claims ignorance of the seized box contents and will receive another opportunity to explain.

Clifton District to Host Hornbrook Murder Probe? (Note: incorrect)

Lieutenant Colonel Hornbrook, who recently examined strike conditions at Jerome Arizona, will arrive in Clifton within a day or two to begin an investigation of conditions there. The Detroit Copper Company plans to resume operations on his arrival. Mines in the Clifton Morenei district have been closed since mid July. He leaves tomorrow to report for duty and Dr Hughart will handle his practice in his absence.
