Benson merchant Charles Goetz said the Benson smelter rebuild is near completion and expected to blow in within weeks. The plant has secured ore contracts from Johnson district miners and others along the lower San Pedro, with eastern capital backing the project after Goetz’ fall travel to mobilize funds.

eighteen inches of beer seized at Hocketts Douglas
On June 15 Sheriff McDonald and federal officers searched Bart Hocketts Parcville property near Douglas. Friday a second inspection yielded about 18 inches of beer on the cellar floor, broken bottle glass, and 20 bottles to be used as evidence. No charges were filed. Hackett remains free on bail awaiting appeal. Officers report reporting to higher authorities for instructions.
