Hayden Bill Seeks to Shift Mine Assessment Period
The House Mines Committee backs How Curt Hayden of Arizona for a bill to move unpatented mining claim assessment from the calendar year to a fiscal year ending June 30. The change, starting July 1, aims to avoid winter in mountains and extend work into May and June, with broad Western support and Nevada urging action. Alaska objections arise over winter prospecting, but committee sees no carve-out for Alaskan claims.
