Stolen King Revealed in Madrid Abduction Plot
An ambassador recounts a covert caper in which Spain’s young Alfonso XIII was spirited away from the palace. A forged illness, a mocked review, and a ruse with a Pedrillo substitute enabled a kitchen conspirator and an impostor doctor to kidnap the king, while Queen Christina and Prime Minister Guastala navigated state risks. The plan collapsed when the disguise failed, the real Pedrillo was found, and the conspirators faced no public trial.
