Arizona denies bond boost for $5000 deficit
The Phoenix Machine and Cold Storage company asked for permission to issue $5,000 in new bonds to cover a deficit caused by Arizona’s dry status. The state corporation commission allowed $95,000 in refinancing but refused the extra $5,000, saying the deficit stemmed from prohibition and poor management. The commission noted the city’s growth creates demand for cold storage and that the firm is returning to normal operations, but declined the additional funds as an incentive for inefficiency.
