Fred Spaulding a former Phoenix Phoenix Photix boy and Arizona Rb was aboard the Can ard liner Orduna when it was attacked by a German submarine. He landed in New York Saturday and is traveling west for the summer visiting relatives in California and will pass through Phoenix. State tax levy may be delayed by appropriation fight

Phoenix July 23. Determination of the state tax levy and collection of taxes may be held up pending a court decision on the appropriation bill. Jesse Boyer will seek a writ of mandamus against State Auditor Callaghan. The process could push court submission to August 10, then September. The state board of equalization may not act effectively before the August session, given possible court rulings. The first tax installment due September 15 and delinquent November 15 under the new semi annual scheme.
