Molokans Start Service With Refusal to Sign Questionnaires

Deputy U S Marshal F L A Weage returned from Fort Huachuca with six Molokan men who refused to fill or sign their questionnaires. They were placed in the guard house, then marched to work. They were subjected to a military routine, shirts tucked, whiskers trimmed, and food limited to fruit. The group’s leader cited a spiritual vision advising against signing. The commander suggested possible transfer to Camp Kearny for training, but details remain unsettled. The Russians appeared orderly during the trip, and their leader stated no opposition to laws, only to the questionnaires due to a spiritual call.
