Magons Found Guilty After Short Trial

In Ples California July 149 the Magons were found guilty by a jury of violating the espionage act by publishing a statement in their paper El Regeneracion on March 1. The defendants faced a maximum fine and twenty years in prison.

Reform­er Jennings Wanted On Bank Check Charges

Al Jennings once an outlaw and reformer, now a moving picture promoter, is sought on four felony counts for passing worthless bank checks in Tucson. County Attorney Moore filed the complaint naming Al Jennings and his brother Plack Jennings. An extradition effort may bring them to Tucson for trial. The June 20 check for 69 dollars paid Shad Bowyer for auto services while Jennings worked on a local moving picture project.

Slayer of Jim Lowry Killed by Posse Member at Rattle Snake Tanks

July 1 Bassito, murderer of former Sheriff James Lowrey of Yavapai county, was tracked to a drinking hole near Rattle Snake tanks forty miles north of Verde. Deputy Frank Dickerson of Coconino county shot him dead when Bassito reached for his pistol. Dickerson received a $3 reward. later reports note Pedro Hernandez killed by Deputy Dickinson during a Verde road encounter. A $2,000 state reward and company bounty had been offered for Hernandez's arrest.

Senoritas Arrested for Smuggling Silk in Nogales

Two Mexican women were detained at the International line with silk smuggling stakes. One suspect, unnamed, carried around ninety blue silk yard garments valued at three dollars each under clothing. A second woman had fifteen silk skirts and a cache of four dozen silk shirts found in a downtown store. Two more Mexican women were arrested in connection with the incident.

Americans Penetrate German Lines Ten Miles Deep in Fading Front

United States forces crossed roughly ten miles into German defenses, with about 170,000 troops engaged in the main assault. General March reported progress with guns and prisoners captured in encouraging quantities as the drive continued. Quentin Roosevelt death confirmed after an aerial clash over the front in flames. Ellinwood German prisoner reported well in Bisbee item

A brief telegraph note from Paris dated July 1 1908 confirms Ralph Ellinwood of Ellinwood Bisbee and Anita received a postal indicating the prisoner in Germany is in good health. Captain W H Brophy of the American Red Cross relayed the message from Paris.

Arizona Arab Wanted on Embezzlement Charge

In Jerome on July an Arab named Jeren is sought for embezzling 110 dollars said to have been entrusted to him for safekeeping by M Farage a Syrian. The two Jerome Cottonwood establishments were closed by creditors. Farrage raised 1900 dollars to reopen Cottonwood but claims he gave it to Kazan to avoid garnishment.
