Switchman killed under wheels in Douglas yard accident

Dec 7. HB Sparks switchman for El Paso and Southwestern railroad fell from a Neck Island refrigerator car and was instantly killed yesterday morning at the Twenty first street yard. While inspecting an attached end, the car coupler failed as the train neared the station. Yard foreman Ro Morrison shouted a warning but Sparks could not escape. The train passed over him, breaking the body. Sparks resided at 161 North Nineteenth street and is survived by a widow, a 16 year old daughter, and a naval son. He was a thirty second degree Mason and had served a year in the service.

Miner Picklick Fatally Injured in Czar Shaft Fight

Joe Pabloh and Francisco Velardo fought at the Queen branch Czar shaft. Velardo struck Picklick with a pipe, fracturing his skull. Pabloh remains in hospital with a fractured skull. Velardo was arrested. Picklick’s condition and marital status noted. incident occurred on the 400 level in a drift behind a car.

Fred Ross aged 17 released on probation after two months on a charge of issuing worthless checks at a southern Arizona bank. A lumber camp assignment was found for him and he promised to devote his wages to repaying the funds he fraudulently obtained.

Hole in Hun helmet reveals fate of its former owner

In Bisbee, a German helmet sent home by Private HS Ludford of Haq 340th field artillery bears a telltale back hole from a head shot. The helmet, picked from a dead enemy and sent to Ludford’s parents as a Christmas memento, is on display at Robey's Haberdashery. Ludford and 24 others from Bisbee left the city last February, many already in heavy combat.
