Sparks Outfights Douglas In County Tax Fight
J M Sparks Cochise county board of supervisors chairman clashed with Maricopa county officials at Prescott meeting. Sparks led opposition to a blanket five million dollar tax cut, securing a motion to keep lands and city lots in Maricopa at original assessments by 44 to 4. He argued Cochise will pay about 115000 this year and Maricopa about 66000000, urging proper contributions to state and school funds. The panel endorsed keeping the rolls near the original figures and referred the matter to the state tax commission.

Three Cent Rate Started by Ray and Gila Valley
The Ray and Gila Valley railroad becomes the first common carrier in the state to comply with the corporation commission's three cent per mile passenger rate. Hay Junction to Ray falls from fifty to thirty five cents, and Ray to Kelvin follows. Other roads challenge the order in federal court while no restraining order is sought. Coroner's Verdict Disputed By Father In Echols Death
J F Echols, a wealthy farmer, arrived in Tucson to accompany the body of his son Benjamin W Echols who died reportedly by self harm. He believes the death was accidental by a six shooter discharge during a bathroom moment and doubts suicide. He questions reports of a Baron Banes Wacsmann Eckels letter address and states his son was not planning South Sea Islands travel. He notes his son was eccentric but not suicidal and wants the public to know the family view. Officers reportedly considered self inflicted gunfire as conclusive.
