A potluck dinner and family reunion honored Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Furst and their daughter of Long Beach California. Attendees included Ted Burns and David, Joe Jurgens, Wm Jurgens of Buffalo Center. Lear Gortmaker of Miller S D. John Furst and Jeffrey. Henry Furst of Algona. Harry Mathahs and sons. Norman Helmké and children of Renwick. and Burheetland of Thompson.

The Lutheran Ladies Aid Society met in the Lakota church parlors last week Wednesday. Velma Meyer Ilona Hertzke and Donna Hertzke formed a trio with Shelda Hertzke at the piano. The group sang It Is No Secret Nearer My God to Thee and other selections. Marlene Christ played saxophone Iona Sachs played clarinet. The program topic was Our Christian Work Among the Jews. Guests sang Fervent in Spirit Serving the Lord and Take My Hand Dear Father.
Lakota School opened last week with an enrollment of 315 students. The staff includes Superintendent John W. Cook, Principal Virgil Barrett, and various teachers led by Mrs. Budlong, Mr. Hand, Miss Cassem, Mr. Baum, Mr. TePaske, Miss Ellwood, Miss Charlson, Miss Trogie, Miss Olson, Miss Eastman, Miss Person, and Mrs. Frances Deim. Grade enrollment totals show Kindergarten 34, first 43, second 26, third 19, fourth 20, fifth 23, sixth 34, seventh 19, eighth 41, ninth 0, tenth 21, eleventh 18, twelfth 15.
The second son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Kerker suffered a head gash when hit by a merry go round on school grounds last week. He has returned to school and is reported to be doing well. Additional community notes list visits and relatives including the Furst and Kerker families and friends visiting Titonka, Whittemore, Ledyard, and Winnebago.
