Newly devised spray keeps apples on trees in Iowa

Iowa commercial growers can prevent premature fruit drop by spraying a new synthetic hormone substance mixed with water. Edgecombe, State College extension horticulturist, says the spray delays drop by about two weeks and yields larger, fully ripened fruit. Applied as apples begin to fall, it blocks the abscission layer at the fruit spur.
