Mason City dates report John Lee thirty years a resident here was killed by a Milwaukee freight at 4:50 yesterday near the Austin bridge one mile north of the city. Lee was a wealthy pioneer hardware merchant whose health failed recently he was out for a walk at a curve on the track his head was severed from the body and part of the skull remained on the bridge the body will be sent to New York for burial
Clarence Carr aged 12, prisoner in Woodbury county jail, robbed a fellow inmate of 35.90 while awaiting trial. Stepson of Prof Gilbert Garr, owner of the Hotel Madison. His father pressed the complaint. Judge Gaynor ordered commitment to the reform school.
Mrs. Edward H. Thurston once Annie Lawford, imprisoned for John Diller's murder, was moved from Anamosa penitentiary to a state hospital at Tidepenterce amid reports of impending death and hopeless insanity.
W E Brown former president of the defunct First National Bank of Storm Lake was found guilty in federal court on thirty counts across two indictments for fraudulent entries and false government reports. The minimum sentence is five years and a possible ten years per count. Brown may appeal as the verdict was delivered after seven hours of deliberation.
Sioux City reports Judge Henry T. Reed sentenced W. E. Brown, former president of the defunct National Bank of Storm Lake, to five years in Anamosa state prison for government prosecutions. Attorneys said no appeal would be filed and Brown may shorten the term for good behavior to four years and two months.
Des Moines reports Frank Shercliffe is missing from his East Des Moines workplace at the Des Moines Casket Company. Authorities note his disappearance follows the Dennison case in Red Oak and speculate he may be fleeing to avoid burglary charges in Oklahoma. His wife remains in Des Moines awaiting news as officials consider extradition.
Stone City dispatch reports H. Darrow, 60, shot and killed Lillian Darrow, 26, then killed himself in a crime staged in a hotel and carriage scenario. Police found both dead at the Milwaukee station after a two shot sequence. The motive remains undisclosed.
