Street Names Confuse Tourists in New Orleans
New Orleans struggles with 2200 miles of streets and 1100 names. Tchoupitoulas is the oldest name with 20 official spellings. Burgundy was Craps Street, and church renamings caused years of listing errors. Lafitte Street crosses Claiborne Avenue by design due to historic rivalries. Basin Street fame stems from a renamed Saratoga Street, later restored.
