Anthracnose Affects Iowa Shade Trees Scientists say fungus hits many species
Iowa State College plant pathologist R H Porter notes that many shade trees in Iowa are attacked by anthracnose, especially sycamore oak elm and hard maple during wet years. Red oak seems less affected, white and burr oaks harmed. defoliation is common but new leaves appear if the weather dries. Small trees can be sprayed with a 4-4-50 Bordeaux mixture, though large trees are impractical to treat. If wet seasons persist, some trees may die.
