Political Meetings at Algona Conventions Draw Large Crowds

Algona Republican and Democratic conventions convened Saturday with large attendances. Republicans elected M. P. Weaver temporary chair, Mrs. Woodward as vice chair, and re elected county chairman Robert Harrington. Delegates named for Des Moines and Crescent Beach district and state conventions, with endorsements of candidates including L. J. Dickinson and J. C. Skow. Democrats named J. H. Sheridan chair and approved two core endorsements for district and state races.

Bancroft Lions Lead North Kossuth Base Ball League Race

The first half ends with Bancroft Lions atop the standings as Swea City and Whittemore challenge. Art Murray and Gian Cage drive a strong American Legion base ball program in the county and Bancroft is seen as formidable. French Family Visits from Pennsylvania in Algona

The Gordon French family from Philadelphia arrived for a visit at the Howard French home, joining relatives in Kossuth County. Gordon, Jon son of the late Sam French, is in the Blanchard Lumber Co. in Philadelphia, while Mrs. French is a daughter of the late Dr. Peters of Burt.

Good Will Club Meeting Details At French Lumber Office

The Good Will Club met Friday evening at the French Lumber Co offices due to heat. Luke Miller, president, praised donors for funding the band stand, which was built with donated labor. Signs for Titonka roads and street dust reduction were discussed, with actions likely later. OW Denton brought ice cream and Louis Bartlett invited two members as theatre guests.

Richter Dusold Wedding At Wesley Saturday

A pretty wedding took place at St. Josephs Catholic church in Wesley as Miles Hedwig Richter wed Howard Dusold of Mason City. The bride daughter of John and Mrs. Richter wore white chiffon over silk with a pearl coronation band and white gardenia bouquet. Bridesmaid Teresa Richter wore blue net over blue silk. Groom Bert Dusold attended in a dark suit with gardenia boutonniere. After a three course dinner for 75 at the bride’s home, a reception followed. The couple will reside in Clear Lake for the summer.

Crops Good In Mitchell Area Say Clemans

Mr and Mrs Robert Clemans and family visit Mitchel S D as rain keeps crops green. They note corn thriving around Mitchell while grasshoppers appear further west and cattle are scarce on the Indian reservation. Dam overflows the nearby artificial lake outlet for the second time.

Minor Offenders in Courts at Algona

Algona court week saw Oliver Manley of Maryville Missouri cited for improper registration of motor vehicle with $5 fine and $2 costs. Mayor Specht heard Bill Spencer from Algona who was dismissed on good behavior and costs for disturbing the peace. No new cases filed. one probate case decided, guardianship for W. J. Martinek, incompetent, with D. R. Lynch appointed guardian and copies from Fayette County certified.

Conroy Bros Circus Comes to Titonka

Conroy Bros. Show a motorized circus visits Titonka on Tuesday July 12 for an evening performance. Tents go up in the Budlong pasture west of Titonka with merchants promoting ticket sales. Adults pay 20 cents plus tax and children 10 cents for a good seat to see all acts. Local merchants back the event and readers are urged to look for ads and trade with them while supporting the circus.

Harvey Ingham Delivers Fourth of July Address at Algona

Harvey Ingham spoke at Algona celebrating Independence Day. He recalled early Iowa history, including Fort Defiance near Estherville and his father Captain Ingham leading the Northern Town Brigade to guard settlers from Indians. He urged younger generations to advance regional development and predicted the area could become a garden spot in ten to twenty years if efforts continued.

Immanuel Lutheran Church Invites Worship and Picnic

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waverly Iowa invites worship next Sunday at 10:00 a m with Sunday School at 9:00 a m and a Ladies Aid gathering Thursday. The Orphanage Home Festival is slated for July 10 with all invited. Our Sunday School picnic last Sunday drew a good turnout and the Ramsey Reformed Sunday School adult class hosts a ice cream social Friday July 8 on the church lawn with special music. Immense Crowd at Fourth of July Celebration

Large gathering at the fall grounds in Algona for Independence Day features two speeches by Harvey Ingham and M F Wenger. Jallopy race winner was Howard Dyer with Dick Cook, his riding partner, uninjured after a double rollover. Cherry Lad won county half mile and first county race, True Book second, then Pat Goldstein and Norixa with Hummingbird and Major Mickey also racing. Bancroft’s Kossuth Junior Legion champs beat a league team 21 to 5. Algona Brownies defeated Fairmont Minn. Town pageant titled The Opon Door capped the evening with free acts both sides of the day.

Welcome to New Minister and Reception at Lutheran Church

About 150 members and friends gathered Friday evening in the church basement to honor the new minister Rev. and Mrs. Martin Schulz. The program, led by Rev. A. Kilian, featured music from the boys quartet and trio, readings, a talk by Rev. Schulz, a speech by a congregant, and a silver purse presentation. A delicious lunch closed the event.

Mrs Lonergan Dies After Auto Crash Injuries

Mrs. Lonergan of Bancroft died in Algona hospital twelve days after an auto crash at St. Joe. She suffered a broken leg and other injuries but was reported improving before death. Funeral held in Bancroft Monday. Survived by husband Paul Lonergan and two sons. She was 81. Lonergan long associated with Lenander bank in Bancroft and later with revenue and income tax departments.

Auto Accident East of Swea City Sunday

Sheriff Casey Loss and deputy A J Cogley investigated a three mile east of Swea City crash Sunday morning. Wilfred Drdegsler driving Peta Steller's car west struck the rear of Claude Wigg's Clarion car, sending Reiter's vehicle off the road and causing extensive damage. Wigg occupants Marian Schiltz sustained a head gash and Reiter chipped elbow. Racine Wiggs, Kenneth Wigg and other riders were uninjured.
