Contour Farming Boosts Yields and Soil Savings
Frank Mendell of the Soil Conservation Service states contour farming raises oat yields by 5.4 bushels per acre and conserves moisture while cutting soil loss. Research by George Browning and the Town Agricultural Experiment Station supports contour planting around hills as a fast, effective conservation practice. Farmers adopting contouring gain practical insight as equipment operates on level ground and initial field adjustments reduce apparent problems.
