Sudan Grass Proves Superior Pasture For Summer
Horace B. Cheney of Iowa State College reports Sudan grass yields more pasture in July and August than other emergency crops. On good soils it can support one to two cows per acre, with best results on fertile soils that do not dry quickly. Seed shallowly 13 to 25 pounds per acre in late May or early June. plants reach 15 to 18 inches before pasture. Chinch bugs target Sudan grass, so avoid planting near bug-infested small grain fields.
