A Cedar Reapldy justice settled a case by accepting $100 in gold as payment of a fine. A resident arrested for careless driving pleaded guilty and paid the same $100 fine with a small batch of gold coins.
Joe Ricard of 2117 Nash Street Sioux City has finished a cabinet made from 147 distinct woods gathered over eight years. The piece stands four feet high three feet wide and features five front doors with many interior compartments. No nails were used as inlaid wood forms the design and color scheme.
Extension horticulturists J G Cunningham and W Edgecomb report Iowa gardeners across 63 counties have embraced home gardening this year. They have met 2120 leaders to discuss organizing garden programs and vegetable culture, with leaders passing advice to interested residents.
A large central garden will be tended to grow vegetables for canning and storage for distribution next fall and winter. In some counties towns provide plots for each unemployed family, while others offer garden space or assistance from county officials. Reconstruction funds Red Cross and similar support fund seed distribution with welfare groups cooperating. The campaign’s second phase starts this month with meetings to address planting, soil weed and pest control. Canning and storage demos will be offered by horticulture and nutrition specialists during summer and fall.

Trout fishermen from Waterloo and surrounding area praise northeastern Iowa stream improvements and the state’s trout stocking policy as key to successful fishing trips. WW HW Prier of the Waterloo Izaak Walton League notes Dr. W. H. Bickley and colleagues spent hours surveying Richmond Spring Brook and the Maquoketa River, reporting positive results.
A notice from Kossuth County Iowa announces that an instrument dated March 2 1933 purporting to be the last will of Lewis Oesterreicher deceased has been filed for probate. A hearing to prove the will is set for July 6 1988 at 10 o clock A M at the Algona courthouse before the district court or clerk. All interested persons must appear and show cause why the instrument should not be probated. Dated Algona Iowa May 25 1998.
