Commencement Exercises Held Last Wednesday
Last Wednesday evening the local high school held commencement in the assembly room. Sixteen graduates received diplomas presented by W. H. Stott, with Rev. T. Ernest Hoon delivering the address titled Trail Blazers of the Twentieth Century. Donald Banta won a gold medal for top scholastic average. Supt. Hoon awarded the Citizenship medal, and Miss Viola Rike was chosen to receive the honor by the faculty.

Swanson Awarded Gravel Job On Three Mile Algona Road
J. W. Swanson bid on a surfacing project at Algona last week and was awarded the contract to surface a three mile gravel road starting at the John K Ripentrop property north of the Rainbow bridge and proceeding west three miles. The road was graded a year ago and was impassable for several weeks during March and April. Fourteen unemployed men with trucks began work on the project Monday morning.

Algona Youth Killed in Auto Accident
Algona youth Ralph Ward aged 18 died after a truck sideswiped his car on the Clear Lake north shore Saturday night. Ward and Dr. H McCorkle were in a Chevrolet sedan when the hog truck driven by O B Jorstad collided, throwing them from the vehicle as it rolled. Ward died at Mason City Park Hospital about 3 a m Sunday. Dr McCorkle was treated in Clear Lake and Mason City and released. The coroner opened an investigation.
