Mrs W W Dirksen and family called at Garner and visits in Britt and Mason City appear among a string of local gatherings. Numerous residents including Gertrude Bode, Marjorie Dirksen, and Marjorie Rudisill visited Britt and Mason City, while clerical and church groups met in Britt and Spirit Lake.
Mr and Mrs Michael Winter and daughter Madonna of Mason City visited relatives here from Saturday with Monday. Mr and Mrs Ernest Thaves of St Paul arrived here Saturday for a visit with their cousins the Misses Emma and Louise Thaves and Louis Thaves. Harold Koppen and Steven Powers visited at Des Moines from Saturday until Monday. Dr and Mrs Robert Brown of Canton NY and Miss Lena Amundsen of Magle Grove arrived here Sunday for a visit at the home of the ladies sister Mrs I H Wortman and family. Betty Lou Bentley celebrated her first birthday Sunday July 4 at her parents Leslie and a group of relatives joined them for a picnic dinner. Attendees included Herman Tjarks family Ben Isebrand Henry Isebrand Wilma John Isebrand Deloris Harvey and Dr Pierre Sartor who was in Major City on business. Ronald Smith and family from Iowa Falls joined the Fourth of July weekend visit. Martinek has been ill but is improving. Sophie Contadi and Mrs. Contadi were mentioned among friends.

A fire at the M A Maguire farm northwest of St Joe Was destroyed the farm buildings including a barn and tools while the family was away. Surrounding towns sent firemen and equipment but the blaze caused about $5,000 in losses with $2,400 covered by insurance.
