Vitamin B1 Fails in Further Tests Says Ames Researcher
E S Haber of Iowa State College horticulturists reports eighteen months of testing vitamin B1 with other growth stimulants. He finds little to no overall growth benefit. lettuce plants often fare better with water alone, and peas, beans, and grasses show no improvement. Cauliflower and cabbage slightly respond, but starter solutions remain far more effective. Apple trees show no noticeable growth increase after root soaking in B1. Haber suggests peat addition at planting or wax emulsion coatings to reduce drying as more beneficial.

Cattle Feeds Rise in Iowa as Feeders Grow
Iowa State College economists report farmers have brought in more feeder cattle this year than since 1920. Purchases favor lighter cattle of 500 to 700 pounds, with some heavy stock included. Large feed supplies and roughages spur rising feeding, likely boosting end of year totals beyond 1939 while 1941 price prospects improve amid offsetting demand.
