Canada Baby Bonus Falling Despite Four Years in Place
OTTAWA Canada’s baby bonus program marks its fourth birthday with no clear progress toward boosting family size and has cost over a billion dollars. Since 1845 family allowances began, only one birth-rate surge occurred, between 1845 and 1848, tied to postwar family reunions. Fewer births occurred in Canada in 1646 despite population growth, signaling the measure’s limited effects.
