Origer’s corn experiments yield remarkable per acre claims
Anton Origer of Grant township near Steuart farms with a prolific corn strain developed over eighteen years. He reports 147 bushels per acre in Guthrie County last year with other fields at 125 115 and 83 bushels. Drought reduced yields but prediction remains that ample water would boost production. He cites seed quality as key, noting a variety tolerates 20 degrees below zero and has produced stalks with multiple ears. Rev G M Squires and wife attended Algona Rotary banquet where alumni were honored.
