Prairie Neighbors meet for Valentine program and church youth study

The Prairie Neighbors met at Mrs August Studer home with Mrs Dale Dornbeir assisting. Valentine ideas were carried out in the program. The Methodist youth school held its first of five meetings on Feb 13th with multiple teachers across age groups. A pot luck supper occurred in the church parlors. The 48th Farmers Cooperative Society stockholders meeting is set for Feb 21 at 1:30 pm at American Legion hall to vote on a two-term board limit and one-year off period plus regular business and program items.

High Producing Cows Pay Handsomely for Labor

A study of 801 Iowa dairy herds found that cows yielding 350 to 399 pounds of butterfat per year returned 2.25 dollars for every feed dollar, after costs. Average feed cost was 167 dollars, with 87 dollars for equipment and other costs, leaving 122 dollars per cow for labor. Cows producing over 500 pounds of butterfat earned 214 dollars per cow for labor, more than three times the lowest-producing group.
