State Senate Acts Briefly Told By State Senator
The Senate approved a House measure reducing the Board of Social Welfare from five part time members to three full time members with $4 000 yearly salaries, plus transferring the Emergency Relief Administration to the board. A companion act clarifies a veteran exemption and counties' assessments. The Senate also passed a tax on butterfat and a school district audit option, plus bills on marriage examinations and blood tests for expectant mothers. Thursday focused on unemployment compensation bills, with mixed support. Senator Breen ridiculed efforts to abolish the State Planning Board, but the board is defended as providing facts for informed action.
