Silkworm Secrets From Head Glands To Silk Thread
Silkworms excrete a sticky substance from head glands that dries into silk thread. A cocoon the size of a pigeon's egg holds 500 to 1200 yards of continuous thread. The thread is extremely fine with 12 miles weighing less than an ounce. Workers judge cocoon maturity by silence inside, then heat-kill the chrysalis to preserve the cocoon. After soaking, threads are twisted into a strong strand, yielding greater luster and absorbency. Some fabrics are weighted with tin, iron, or zinc salts.
Propaganda Matches Used to Boost Morale in WWI

Many people also hold group hospital and surgical insurance, group accident and sickness benefit plans, and mutual benefit associations. Andrew T. Court of GM testified before a congressional committee opposing government compulsory health insurance, noting rapid growth and business leadership in expanding voluntary health programs.
