Magazine sales drive fuels fundraising for basketball uniforms with prizes and steak dinners. Five couples received licenses from the district court clerk in the past week. The pairs are Theodore Elbert and Minnie Wilson of Whittemore, Stanley G Hansen and Oral Hansen of Algona, Henry Steinlicht of Corwith and Peggy Gerdis of Algona, John S Teig of Buffalo Center and Edith M Boyken of Woden, and Kenneth Wagner and Delores Thompson of Corwith.
Church schedules show Morning Worship at 11 and Sunday School at 10, with evening Bible study at 7 16, Youth Fellowships, and choir practices. A December church conference will decide on building sites. Kodachrome slides on church architecture to follow. Also notes on subscriptions to the Methodist weekly, and Doan service at 10 with magic by Harold Carlson. A trapper along the Hoyer River was found after a missing person alert.
Miss Mary Jane Hauptman and Donovan Lichteig wed in a two part ceremony at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The bride wore a satin gown with pearl necklace and a lace veil. A large reception followed at the parish hall with 150 guests and a wedding dance at Kleinpeter hall.
The American Legion Auxiliary upholds a December meeting on Tuesday December 10 at the Denton home instead of Monday due to a larger event. Co-hosts Lyda Petersen and Lorraine Boekelmaan greet attendees while Mabel Petersen lists needed items for occupational therapy including fabric ragnews greases and wool pieces. A shipment deadline for Yanks gifts is December 15 with local stores aiding.
The annual carnival at Woden High School Tuesday evening drew a large crowd and yielded substantial proceeds. A program by grade children directed by Miss Fitzpatrick Miss McDermott and Mrs Byars showcased the event. In the queen contest sophomore Shirley Rudisill won the most votes with Mary Ann Olthoff second.
The double ring ceremony Sunday afternoon December 1 united Miss Mae L Boyken daughter of Mr and Mrs William Boyken of Woden with Sidney R B Bishop son of Mr and Mrs Sue Bishop of Armstrong. Rev Frank Snuttier officiated at the Ram sey Reformed Church. The couple will reside at Armstrong where the groom farms.
The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary sponsor a nationwide Gifts to the Yanks Who Gave drive. Iowa urges generous contributions to honor veterans in state hospitals with new gifts such as playing cards, pens, towels, and clothing, to be left at Denton drug store or Beed hardware store before December 14, with details via Mrs. Wilbur Schram.
Kossuth county voters may soon decide the question of a new court house. The grand jury urged the board of supervisors to submit the bond issue to voters at an early date citing deplorable storage facilities and fire hazards in county records. They also recommended improved jail bedding conditions and blankets, and praised the county home management with well kept barns and livestock.
The Ramsey Reformed Church announces worship at 8:30 AM with Sunday school at 10:30 AM no evening service. The Young People's Society meets Wednesday at 3 PM and the Senior Catechism class Wednesday at 7:35 PM. Christmas program practices are slated for Sunday school divisions Saturday at 1 PM and Sunday at 2 PM. Note a change of worship and Sunday school house for this Sunday. Let us walk honestly as in the day.
Lyle Finnell, son of Mr and Mrs Donald Finnell of Hamburg, put a finger into a clothes wringer. The device tripped and pulled his arm to the elbow, but he escaped serious injury. Sel Winston of New York for buyer, returning from Iowa near Osceola, rolled his car several times to avoid a collision. He was unhurt aside from bruises. the other driver did not stop.
Richard Schutter of West Bend was killed when his pickup collided with a corn truck. He would have turned 20 on January 2. Relatives at the West Bend Presbyterian service included Jerry Schutter Minnie Heetland Henry Schutter and many Heetland Ukena and Nurre family members along with Mrs Ida Ukena and others.
Sales volume for the week shows eight cars and one truck. New owners listed include Buick with Art Collins of Swea City, Fords with Eugene Hood of Algona, Helen McEnroe of Algona, and others such as Don ald Mitchell of Burt and R. B. Waller of Algona. Pontiac is taken by Mrs. H. R. Peters of Algona, International pickup by J. H Welp of Bancroft, and Chevrolet by G. C. Scobee of Algona.
A Des Moines truck driver, A. M. Stone, was cleared of manslaughter charges in the Algona crash that killed Gerald W. Dudding near Bancroft on July 3. Dudding died at the scene, his wife was injured, and Stone remained at the scene to administer aid and provide testimony. The grand jury dismissed the charge, ruling the crash an accident.
Sunday School at morning worship 11 a m and Sunday evening evangelistic service. Thursday prayer meeting at 8 pm. Special revival meetings nightly at 8 pm from December 3 to December 8 led by Evangelist O S Nederbo Chicago with preaching and singing inviting all to attend.
Joseph Hauptman aged 82 died at his Wesley residence after a brief illness on a Friday. Funeral mass conducted at St. Joseph's Church with Rev. L N Klein. born in Graffendorf Austria on Oct 27 1864. immigrated 1880, later lived on a Garner farm then east of Wesley before moving to Wesley. Survived by two sons two daughters two brothers and five grandchildren. Pallbearers included Olaf Finnermark John Richter Victor Loebig James Haverly Wilfred Loebig and Oliver Young. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
The Immanuel Luther League held a Sunday devo and annual meeting. Officers elected for the year include Arthur Post as president Lilian Plant vice president Troyce Bruns secretary Fred Wilfred Schmidt treasurer Tone Mayland hospice secretary Lester Schmidt pocket testament secretary Lenora Behnmid educational secretary. A Christmas Party was planned for December 15 with Wartburg College figures and local leaders noted.
