Young man arrested for serious offense in county seat
A young man working about the country was arrested and taken to the county seat Monday for a serious offense. He was let off on a lesser charge by Algona officials. Fey operations yield larger returns for the labor involved than mowing the edges of grain fields along the roads. Weeds may be prevented from seeding and the appearance of the land is improved greatly. More than 1,800 lots of seed from growth-resistant plants brought back from Turkestan by plant hunters of the USDA are now growing in plant reserve stations established last year by the department. The Algona team lost 1 to 0 to Titonka when the Indians showed fighting spirit. Edwin Emerson of Rowan visited Miss Alice Gartner Sunday. Rev. T. Ernest Hoon and family visited the C. A. Hoon home Friday. Mrs. R. C. Ball and daughters Barbara and Patty spent Monday at Mason City. Miss Louise Conradi returned from a week at Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Mesdames Harry Reed and Homer Downs had business in Algona Tuesday forenoon. Herman Bartelt and Otto Bartelt of Games visited Mr and Mrs. Harry Bartelt Sunday. Miss Jean French spent the weekend in Algona with cousin Jane Laird. Jack and Mary Hoon visited from Friday to Sunday with grandparents in Garner. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Klenk visited Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Dan Galent.
