Register Story Brings Old Times To Mind Here
The Des Moines Tribune column recalls 30 to 40 years ago when mixed trains served as real ac comodating links. Conductor George Cogswell of Titonka rigged a signal cord to the engine for duck hunters, delaying trains two hours one day as they nabbed birds along sloughs. The Klondike round trip from Garner to Titania once took 14 to 18 hours daily, with Saturday stock runs and two trips.
