A Chicago pastor Rev. Aitken was unanimously called to York Baptist Church on Sunday September 8. He studied at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, with degrees earned in 1926. His prior pastorates and 1932 Europe trip to England Scotland Wales and Canada added broad educational insight and many friends. The community hopes his ministry will benefit the area. Carroll County agricultural students won many honors at the district 4-H fair held in Oregon. Donald Anderson of Lanark captured the grand champion beef ribbon, with numerous other local exhibitors across beef cattle, hogs, and pig classes earning premiums totaling about 1,200 dollars.
The Airhart Hartman families gathered at Old Mill park Savanna for a Sunday dinner and afternoon picnic honoring Lews Airhart and his side of the Gar s family during a trip before the Chicago fair. Attendees included multiple Smiths Neema Bhir Paul Smith and Orle Smith with several from Thoman and Carroll among others.
The note recalls Rev C H Duvall’s father Dr C T Duvall who died after a weeklong illness in Pecatonica. Born in Baltimore in 1942, he lived with his son’s family, remarried, and leaves a wife, a son, a daughter, and five grandchildren. A Civil War era drummer boy and veteran, his funeral was held at Pecatonica and his body shipped to Baltimore.
The Carroll County Right Of Way Committee and County Surveyor Campbell plus Attorney A Stransky visited York township to settle right of way matters for Route 171. A Glen Ellyn family visiting relatives spent the weekend with Ed and Nelda Williams. Their 11 year old son Bob stepped into a backtracked melon trailer wheel area as men pushed to start it, the truck backing up. he suffered a crushed foot with bones spread and torn ligaments. He received a cast in Savannah and will use crutches for about 30 days. He will stay with grandparents William and family and may attend school here.
