Extension courses may be available for rural teachers
Rural teachers in Carryl county may gain access to extension courses this year. Superintendent Lawrence Brenti announced a representative from Illinois State Teachers College DeKalb would attend a Mt. Carroll meeting Friday to discuss municipal work for teachers. A large majority at a rural teachers meeting before school opened favored such arrangements. Brenti had hoped the DeKalb representative would attend the August 28 gathering but a press misunderstanding prevented his appearance.

Stransdale Dairy Herd Tops County in August Production
Stransdale Farm No. 1 led Carroll County Dairy World Improvement Association with an average of 67.4 pounds of milk and 8.2 pounds of fat per cow for August, besting Edwin Keim's nine purebred Brown Swiss herd at 68.7 pounds milk and 8.42 fat, Werner's 10 purebred Holsteins at 88 pounds milk and 8.406 fat, and G.T. Winters' sixteen Holsteins at 73.7 pounds milk and 25.8 fat also among the top five. The county’s average production for the association was 70.9 pounds of milk and 15.0 pounds of butterfat per cow.

Two Cars Collide Thursday Evening At Intersection
At the intersection of Route 171 and 80, two cars collided during the Thursday evening rush after Route 171 traffic halted for a northbound car. Ralph Beaman of Sterling owned the first vehicle. Tack Dolan of Clinton drove the other for Teysineer Motor Co. No severe injuries reported. Beaman’s car had bumper damage, Dolan’s running board crushed and rear fender damaged.

Rain Brings Relief From Hot Weather in August
Weather observer McGray reports August temperatures peaked at 98 degrees on the 17th with a 52 degree low on the 22nd. Total August rainfall reached 2.77 inches, below the normal 2.80, but heavy summer rain helped keep year to date totals near normal. 20 days were clear and several thundershowers occurred including significant rainfall on the 20th.

Savanna resident Henry Holiing was arrested Saturday on a charge of failure to pay funds as commission law, but released after a $500 bond. The charge, filed Friday by State's Attorney John L. Brearton, alleges he sold alcoholic beverages to Tri-City Beverage customers from Sept 80, 193 to April 28, 1936 and failed to turn over collections.

Northwestern Utilities Plans Major Power Plant Upgrades
Northwestern Travis Utilities announced a 1937 program to modernize the Savanna plant with a 1,000 kilowatt turbine generator a surface condenser pumps and building upgrades at Chicago Avenue and Main Street. The project lifts generating capacity to 4 000 kilowatts adds duplicating centraling facilities to assure uninterrupted service and handle rising loads. An estimated 19 000 will be spent with another 10 000 for a 13 000 volt transmission line and 35 000 to rebuild part of the Mt Carroll distribution system linking Mt Carroll and Chadwick. The total building program totals about 50 000 for the year with similar yearly spending planned to extend rural service and improve town supply.

Police Radio Station Opens September Fifteenth
The Illinois state police radio network reaches completion as Station WQPG in Sterling goes on air September 15, becoming the seventh and last station in operation. Northern Illinois attendees may inspect equipment at the opening day penthouse, with a potential dedication program not yet announced. Three operators will run the station led by Wayne Tresenier, with Enlaesah Charles and a third yet to be selected.
