M. double ring ceremony at First Methodist church Savanna Janet Elizabeth Ervin became the bride of Marvin L Schreiner coxswain USN Rev Arthur Monkman officiated Bride is daughter of Mr and Mrs Lee Ervin and Mr Schreiner is son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Schreiner Following nuptial music and songs were offered by Mrs Raymond Phillips and Miss Barbara Thayer Attending the bride were Mrs George D Frazer matron of honor and Miss Lorraine Radke and Miss Helen Winkler bridesmaids George Frazer was best man and Allen Hammerstein and Robert Georges were ushers A reception with more than 225 guests followed in the church parlors The bride attended Chestnut Park School and Savanna Township High School graduate 1942 She has worked in civil service at Savanna Ordnance Depot Two and one half years Schreiner graduated 1941 from Savanna Township High School Entered Navy service January 1943 and recently returned from South Pacific battles He will report Sept 18 in Washington DC for further schooling Out-of-town guests listed include Tom Jensen and son Richard Leon Pickrell Mrs B Russell Rock Island and many others

August sees no highway fatalities in six Illinois counties

Eight month total records show no highway deaths in Carroll County while Jo Daviess and White sides report two and four respectively and Lee Ogle and Stephenson each report two to four. Three drownings occurred in Carroll and Jo Daviess. Savanna labeled near critical labor area by war manpower officials. Miss Anna Rensema of Polo and Harold Melvin Pilgrim of Milledgeville were married last Wednesday evening August 30 at the Brethren church parsonage in Milledgeville. Rev. W. S. Lanark Pilot Missing Over Hungary

Mr and Mrs Albert Warfel of Lanark received a telegram from the war department stating their son Lt Robert Warfel 26 is missing in action over Hungary. The note follows a letter dated August 21 in which he said he had just completed his 12th B 24 mission.

Fulton Plans Big Festival on Sept. 16

Fulton Illinois hosts a community festival on Saturday September 16 starting 1 30 p m with Kiwanis Club and Community Association sponsorship. Carroll county herdfiers sold at the extreme top on Tuesday at the Chicago Stock Yards. Herefords from Rose and Sturtevant Lanark Ed Schneider Tom Diffenderfer and Fred Wilhelm averaged heavy weights with top prices around 18.95 per cwt. A consignment of 22 prime Hereford heeves from Ralph Picking Shannon brought 318.35 per ewt Wednesday.

Tallman Herd Tops August Dairy Production in Carroll County

The Tallman herd of 15 grade Guernseys and crossbreds led August with 38.8 lbs fat and 1006 lbs milk, marking seven straight months atop the county association. Buford Brothers placed second with 26.8 fat and 1075 milk, followed by J C Bennett with 35.8 fat and 964 milk in third. Annabelle, Buford Bros. Holstein, produced 81 lbs fat and 2077 lbs milk as top individual.

Funeral Rites for Two Local Residents Held

Funeral rites were held for Charles Cheese man 80 lifelong Shannon resident who died Aug 0 following a long illness. Rev Kenneth Bressler officiated at the Cheeseman home burial was in Brethren cemetery. Surviving are four sons two daughters and five grandsons with one son Ned predeceased him. Funeral services for William Howell 83 Savanna resident died after a short illness will be held at 1 30 p m Thursday at Fuller funeral home with Fr H Foster Whitney officiating burial in Zion cemetery. He was born in 1860 in Kings Court Ireland and came to the United States at 18 settling in New York City later Bloomington Illinois. He moved to Savanna 20 years ago and lived with Mr and Mrs J R Williamson. Surviving include a sister in Ireland and a brother in New Zealand.
