M. double ring ceremony at First Methodist church Savanna Janet Elizabeth Ervin became the bride of Marvin L Schreiner coxswain USN Rev Arthur Monkman officiated Bride is daughter of Mr and Mrs Lee Ervin and Mr Schreiner is son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Schreiner Following nuptial music and songs were offered by Mrs Raymond Phillips and Miss Barbara Thayer Attending the bride were Mrs George D Frazer matron of honor and Miss Lorraine Radke and Miss Helen Winkler bridesmaids George Frazer was best man and Allen Hammerstein and Robert Georges were ushers A reception with more than 225 guests followed in the church parlors The bride attended Chestnut Park School and Savanna Township High School graduate 1942 She has worked in civil service at Savanna Ordnance Depot Two and one half years Schreiner graduated 1941 from Savanna Township High School Entered Navy service January 1943 and recently returned from South Pacific battles He will report Sept 18 in Washington DC for further schooling Out-of-town guests listed include Tom Jensen and son Richard Leon Pickrell Mrs B Russell Rock Island and many others
Eight month total records show no highway deaths in Carroll County while Jo Daviess and White sides report two and four respectively and Lee Ogle and Stephenson each report two to four. Three drownings occurred in Carroll and Jo Daviess. Savanna labeled near critical labor area by war manpower officials. Miss Anna Rensema of Polo and Harold Melvin Pilgrim of Milledgeville were married last Wednesday evening August 30 at the Brethren church parsonage in Milledgeville. Rev. W. S. Benshoff read the single ring ceremony with attendants Mrs. Howard Bushman and Lavern Pilgrim. The couple will reside in Milledgeville.
Announcement of the marriage on August 14 between Mrs Lillian Campbell and Bert McMurray, both of Savanna, given at a party at the McMurray home. The wedding occurred in La Crosse Wisconsin. Miss Darlene Leonard and Cpl John Calvin Goetz wed August 29 at St Peters Lutheran in Savanna with Rev Gerhard Fischer officiating.
Cpl. Roy Wilkinson son of Earl Wilkinson of Mt. Carroll and Marjorie Hansey daughter of Mr and Mrs Morris Hansey of Rockford were wed at 8 pm Saturday Aug 26 in Rockford. Rev Banner officiated. The bride, from Duluth Minnesota, and Wilkinson stationed at Camp Stewart Georgia has served two years. Helen Brown of Milledgeville and Mrs Ernest Brown visited Great Lakes to see their brother and husband Ernest Brown in training there.
Mr and Mrs Albert Warfel of Lanark received a telegram from the war department stating their son Lt Robert Warfel 26 is missing in action over Hungary. The note follows a letter dated August 21 in which he said he had just completed his 12th B 24 mission.
Fulton Illinois hosts a community festival on Saturday September 16 starting 1 30 p m with Kiwanis Club and Community Association sponsorship. Highlights include band concerts exhibits rides games broadcasts by KROS and a parade with food stalls and sports events. Robert C Wood leads as general chairman with district coordinators named for program parade exhibits grounds sports churches hospitality concessions publicity prizes.

Newlyweds entertain about 94 friends and relatives Sunday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs William Hans with ice cream and cake. Carroll county will allow 50 entries in the Quad-County 4-H baby beef show in Clinton Iowa on Sept 15 16 Farm Adviser M P Roske says entry blanks have been sent to the owners of the 20 beef calves that earned the county 4-H round up high ranking Aug 25 The list covers Heavy Herefords Light Herefords Angus and Shorthorns with exhibitors named including Donald Miller Ilene Dauphin Charles Hartman Rimmert Shoup Gene Fritz and others.
Fair Haven Evangelical church will welcome Rev Rey Berg as pastor starting next Sunday Sept 10. Berg a navy chaplain discharged for medical reasons will preach at Fair Haven and possibly Malvern while continuing teaching in Beloit and wife teaching in Sheboygan. Berg's background includes Moody Bible Institute and Wisconsin church work with a career in naval service and chaplaincy.
Carroll county herdfiers sold at the extreme top on Tuesday at the Chicago Stock Yards. Herefords from Rose and Sturtevant Lanark Ed Schneider Tom Diffenderfer and Fred Wilhelm averaged heavy weights with top prices around 18.95 per cwt. A consignment of 22 prime Hereford heeves from Ralph Picking Shannon brought 318.35 per ewt Wednesday.
The Tallman herd of 15 grade Guernseys and crossbreds led August with 38.8 lbs fat and 1006 lbs milk, marking seven straight months atop the county association. Buford Brothers placed second with 26.8 fat and 1075 milk, followed by J C Bennett with 35.8 fat and 964 milk in third. Annabelle, Buford Bros. Holstein, produced 81 lbs fat and 2077 lbs milk as top individual.

Evening callers included Mr and Mrs George Kaufman and family from Chadwick.
Miss Emma Rowland of Lanark dies at 62 after months in Dixon hospital a stroke prior. Funeral rites were held for Charles Cheese man 80 lifelong Shannon resident who died Aug 0 following a long illness. Rev Kenneth Bressler officiated at the Cheeseman home burial was in Brethren cemetery. Surviving are four sons two daughters and five grandsons with one son Ned predeceased him. Funeral services for William Howell 83 Savanna resident died after a short illness will be held at 1 30 p m Thursday at Fuller funeral home with Fr H Foster Whitney officiating burial in Zion cemetery. He was born in 1860 in Kings Court Ireland and came to the United States at 18 settling in New York City later Bloomington Illinois. He moved to Savanna 20 years ago and lived with Mr and Mrs J R Williamson. Surviving include a sister in Ireland and a brother in New Zealand.
A Sunday family picnic gathered many relatives at the Adam Heinze residence. Attendees included the Petersen, Hook, Haas, Andersen, Maar ske, Ashby, Fedderson, and Gei ze families from Clinton Chadwick Wacker Springfield and Mary Wagner who visited R. W. Wagner in Columbus Junction the prior week.
Clinton Iowa dance committee of the American Legion announces the Modernistic ballroom season opens on Wednesday evening September 13 with Bob Berkey and his orchestra. Berkey formerly led Ray Pearl and orchestra and now performs at the Melody Mill in Chicago.
Mrs Lena Stagg visited Morrison with cousin Miss Neva Baker on Thursday. Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Fred Miller included Mrs Ida Weber and Arla Brown. The Hook family reunion gathered at Waterworks Park in Morrison with numerous relatives attending.
