Two Killed In Crash Near Savanna Sunday
Searchers recovered the body of Benjamin Rose 18 of Mt Carroll from a Mississippi river slough five miles south of Savanna at 3 15 p m Monday after a hunt began when the youth s clothes were found in a boat he rented at Riverview resort Saturday. Death was ruled accidental drowning at an inquest held at Frank Brothers funeral home.

Damages Sought in Two Carroll County Accident Suits
Two auto collision cases filed in Carroll County Circuit Court seek 25 000 for Zelphia McCoy of Rock Island against Edward Gordon and C G Bauder of Sterling for injuries from an April 14 1940 crash on the Milwaukee road viaduct in Savanna. McCoy allege loss of left leg. A separate suit by Hugo Helen and Mary Marjorie Hyen of Omaha seeks 5 500 total from Marian Boothby and A L Boothby of Savanna for a June 14 1940 collision on state highway 30 nine miles east of Joliet. Each requests 1 500 for Hugo, 1 500 for Helen, and 2 500 for Mary Marjorie.

Two Slightly Injured In Monday Auto Crash Near Fulton
Robert McCall of Savanna and John Elliott of Monmouth sustained slight injuries early Monday when Elliott’s car, trying to pass Gale Stone of Walnut, went off a steep embankment along Route 80 about four miles north of Fulton. Stone was also passing another machine at the time. Elliott’s car was damaged in the incident.

Charles Moll of Carroll county marketed 27 head of prime heavy weight butcher sows from Shannon farm at the Chicago Stock Yards. They averaged 450 pounds and sold at 5.40 per cwt. Cattle and hog prices surged to 1940 peaks midweek with cattle at 13.25 and hogs at 7.65. Farm Bureau leaders and Country Life Insurance families enjoy a Savanna picnic on Sept 8 at Old Mill Park.

Evelyn Asay Shows Grand Champ Steer at Lanark 4-H Roundup
At the Lanark 4-H Roundup Evelyn Asay of Mt. Carroll won the grand championship in the Hereford steer class with a steer shown, while Donald Zier of Lanark took the reserve. Richard Warnock and Lloyd Freeman, both of Mt. Carroll, claimed grand and reserve in the dairy heifer division, and Merle Sturtevant of Lanark won the grand hog title with a Duroc Jersey litter. Numerous other livestock awards across hogs, cattle, and gilts were announced by judge A. L. Goodenough.

Myers Succumbs Tuesday In Mt Carroll Township
Sherman Myers, about 65, Mt Carroll township supervisor, died about 11 o clock Tuesday night at his Mt Carroll home after a brief illness. Funeral services set for 2 p m Friday in Mt Carroll. Survived by widow and two sons Norval and Cleo, three grandchildren, and many friends in Carroll County.

Homecoming Draws Large Crowd at Shannon Parade

A two-day Mt. Carroll Trail Ride is set for Saturday and Sunday September 7 and 8 under the Mt. Carroll Horsemen's Association. Riders from the Northern Illinois Horse Association and neighboring states are invited. The route begins in Mt. Carroll with a noon luncheon at Mississippi Palisades State Park and includes a Saturday cabaret dance at Glengary Country Club. Two Die In Auto Crash Near Savanna Illinois
In Carroll county two youths died after a Sunday accident near the blockhouse on Route 80 four miles south of Savanna. Earl Daniel, 3, and Edgar Miller, 16, died from injuries after cars driven by Mrs. Dannels and Louis Miller sideswiped. The coroner found accidental deaths. Funeral rites were held for Earl Daniel and Edgar Miller in Chadwick and Savanna.

Aviator Forced Landing At Mt Carroll Causes No Injuries
Arthur Garred and Charles Zmuda of Lansing Mich escaped injury when their airplane made a forced landing on the A L Edwards farm near Mt Carroll tenanted by Harry Bruch. Engine trouble caused the landing. one wheel was damaged and the plane was dismantled and shipped back to Lansing. The two men spent the night in Mt Carroll and returned to Lansing Tuesday.
