Sandridge melon growers expect a strong sale as melons ripen fast this week. Demand is high and most first picking will be sold, with many buyers driving in daily hoping to secure fine quality watermelons and mushmelons despite a tight supply.
Thomson Grabs a 5 to 2 win as six Clinton players join Albany for the game, while Howard Leavens starts and Blaine finishes. The match kept a close rhythm amid a small crowd, with strong play from the home team and a disputed lineup that hinted at refits for future contests.
A general alarm rang out Sunday evening as a blaze broke out at the Lou Shelly farm north of town. A crowd formed while the bucket brigade fought the flames, stopping spread to other grain stacks. Only one stack burned, narrowly saving the barn and remaining stacks.
Mrs William Livingstone and sisters Mrs Kate Hansen of Fulton and Margery Spearman of Chadwick led a Savanna Old Mill Park picnic last week. About forty attendees, children of the three ladies and their deceased sisters, shared a noon meal. Mr Harvey Spearman presented the couple with a gold purse for their fiftyth wedding anniversary, celebrated yesterday.
Word arrives that Alvie Keltner is seriously ill due to prior complications and has been moved to Woodman Sanitarium in Colorado Springs Colorado, regarded as a leading TB treatment center in the United States. Wade Keltner, staying with Mr and Mrs Joe Green, departed for Fort Upton last Saturday night.
Morrison team defeated Thomson 8 to 7 on Tuesday at the Morrison Fair. Thomson led early with four runs in the second and three more in the sixth, but Morrison answered with four runs in the fourth and seventh innings. Micky O'Brien pitched seven innings and Lianne Ravens closed out the game, despite Thomson threats in the seventh.

Henry Strauch shingled the Parkhill school last week and completed other needed repairs for the opening of school this week, ensuring the building is ready for students.
The Parent Teachers Association met at Community High School Auditorium on Tuesday evening for its annual officer election and program discussion. Elected officers include President J J Sheridan, 1st Vice President Besse Kenyon, 2nd Vice President Mrs Orella Bennett, 3rd Vice President Prof Darrow, and 3rd Vice President Miss Burns Lee y, Treasurer Mrs L B Sears, and Mrs H P Fuller with daughter Grace of Erie, NL visiting with son Leslie Fuller and grandfather J P Lamphere. The visit also included W D M Cone, their first since Civil War days. Elmer Lawrence and wife report their baby was seriously ill last week but is now considerably better.
Bert Hadley of Los Angeles reports on the Carroll County society picnic at West Lake Park in Los Angeles. About 140 former Carroll County residents gathered Sunday August 24 enjoying baskets, family style lunch, and tropical park scenery. Many plan to attend the spring annual picnic hosted by the society’s officers.
Dusty Farnum plays a Texas Ranger in The Grail at AMUSEA this Friday evening. September weekends promise Saturday movies with the Orchestra and potential sing ing. Regular admission prices.
Mr and Mrs Win Livingstone marked their Golden Wedding yesterday at home with family. The couple hosted most of their children and guests including Mrs Harold Livingstone and her three children from McVouk Nebraska Mrs Wm Leay of Rochford Mrs P J Bennett from Glenn Ellyn and Mrs Fannie Mathers with her son Lloyd Jr of Aurora Illinois.
Mr and Mrs Ed Groharine mourn the death of their grandson Floyd Groharing of Long Beach Cal Floyd son of Arthur Groharing who moved to California about twelve years ago He was twenty four and married about a year Bayard Hollinshead of Morri son, son of Mrs D Hollinshead, has been employed by Savanna Township High School to teach civics algebra and English.
