Kenneth Blakeslee Instantly Killed In Saturday Night Crash

Kenneth D. Blakeslee 30, a farmer near Shannon, was killed instantly when his car left Highway 78 on a curve near Sister's hill north of Mt. Carroll. The inquest returned an accidental death verdict. Surviving are his wife and three children, parents, two brothers, three sisters, and a brother who preceded him. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Polo.

Legion Posts Back Girl Scouts Resolution Recalled

At the Illinois American Legion convention in Chicago in August 1954 most posts opposed withdrawing support for the Girl Scouts of America. Mt Morris Post No 143 reaffirmed confidence in the Girl Scouts Americanism program while criticizing anti subversive action leaders for altering references to the Declaration of Independence the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The Thirteen District Executive Committee endorsed the resolution on August 19 1954 in Freeport Illinois.

Fosdick Armstrong wed in Mt Carroll office ceremony

Miss Martha Jane Fosdick daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Fosdick of Savanna and Clarence Edward Armstrong son of Mr and Mrs Walter Armstrong of Mt Carroll were married Friday April 20 in the office of Justice of the Peace Loren Cates. The bride attended Savanna schools and works at a Lanark canning factory. The groom is a Cordova high school graduate and farms with his father. They reside with the groom's parents. Mr and Mrs Conrad Keil received noon visitors in the Henry Daehler and Arnold Traum homes.

Bandits Target Hardware Stores in Local Thefts

Sheriff Harry Miller investigated a Shannon hardware store owner burglary and an attempted robbery at the Shore home. A bandit in a mask demanded cash and fled after shots were fired. In Thomson, the McGinty hardware store was entered but the safe remained untouched due to alarm wiring.
