Members of the lodges- C. Es. Misticle chapter of the Eastern State met at the peng todze hall on Thursday. Funeral services for Samuel Turnbaugh, a Chadwick leader born August 21 1865 in Thomson Illinois, occurred Wednesday. He died August 24 1942 at his Chadwick home after months of illness. Interment was in Ghad Wick cemetery. He married Minnie Grover February 2 1888 and had five children. The obituary notes his long village involvement and devotion to God.
Public library records show July and August acquisitions totaling 44 new books across adult fiction juvenile works and magazines. Notable titles include The Grand Hotel, The Gold Shoe, Life of Whittier, and works by Hawthorne, Sackett, Klaisdell, and Lonvits, with several poetry and children's titles.
Tobey and son Field report a grand pear and a good onion crop east of Thomson. Six carloads shipped: one to Tampa Florida two to Mobile Alabama one to Flattieville Mississippi one to Greenville Mississippi one to Chicaze. Two track loads also hauled to Chicaze. Crop averaged about 600 bushels per acre.

Announcement made in Savanna Monday evening reports Miss Leone Young daughter of Mrs Mary Young to wed John of Chicago. The ceremony will take place at Resurrection Church in Chicago on Saturday September 17 with a east coast trip planned before settling in Chicago. Miss Young runs the Fashion Shop in Savanna.
Members of the George family gathered at Lawrence Park at Ster Hug for their annual reunion. A noon plum dinner followed. Attendees included J A George and daughter Veneta, Cecil George and family, Bernice Coch ram, Mrs Charles Shultz and Ronald Morrison, George Tripp and daughters, Dan Sennell Thomson, Fred George and his mother, Burton George and son Rock Falls, Russell George and two children Chicago, Walter Queckboerner and two children, Hiram George Chadwick, Mrs Clarence Stage and daughter, Elores and visitors from Morrison, Donner and Elores of Tena, plus Sunday callers at the Schick home and attendees at the Maquoketa fair.
The ladies aid met Wednesday with Mrs. Charles Beck and will meet next at Mrs. Sarah Groharing's home. A pastry sale is set for September 10. Twenty members of the Junior Department attended a party in the church basement last Friday. Games followed by refreshments. Sunday services include preaching at 9 30 am and Sunday school at 10 30 am.
The Live Wire class will present several musical numbers at Lanark Methodist Church next Sunday evening. The ladies aid society is meeting today at the church basement. Sunday program at 10 o clock with preaching at 11 by Rev Langdoc.
The York Center school opened Monday with first through eighth grades listed by names of students and teachers. Mary Kness, James Hook, Blanche Seim, and Leota Stickel are noted as key staff or helpers in supervision and music, with a series of local family and Chicago visitors mentioned in a closing social paragraph.
About 100 Knutsen family members gathered Sunday at Fairyland Park south of DeWitt for a reunion. Meals were served at noon and 6 pm and a ball game plus other activities occurred in the afternoon. Attendees included Henry Knutsen and many relatives from DeWitt Thomson Davenport Goese Lake Walworth Felicity and surrounding areas.
Miss Hilda Irene Pape and Hubert Williams wed in a single ring ceremony at the Aledo Methodist church parsonage on Wednesday afternoon August 24. The bride, a local graduate of 1928, plans future residence with her parents. Williams, Savanna radio repairer and Savanna high school graduate, will work at the groom's parents home nearby. Guests included Mr and Mrs Frank Miller and daughter Geraldine of Shan.
The York Consolidated grade school will open Monday, Labor Day, while other country schools opened last Monday. Sandridge school starts the day after Labor Day. Miss Vivian Merrimac of Davenport and Miss Ruth Hansen of Lyons were guests at the Ed Atherton home last week.
Sixty five students are enrolled across freshmen through seniors with named students in each class. Nineteen courses are offered this year including a new Modern History. Staff notes list Demaree Manus and Woessner Thomas among teachers, with reporter's names and missing students. Some students plan to transfer or attend other schools, and a Shakespeare Macbeth study is in English IV. A Labor Day Monday no school notice is noted with attendees Morrison Jr. and Frank Potter families.
Ms. Demaree gave two student body talks covering school property care and student conduct. The event included mention of the EsKy Sack family Fred Midler Ren Stare and Julius Satpor of Wankegen. A Friday social evening honored Mrs. Ids Weber’s birthday at her home.
Thomson hosts its eighth annual Melon Day with crowds near two thousand attending. Visitor groups toured Chicago sites, watched New York Giants vs Cubs baseball, and enjoyed horse shoe games, vendor stands, and a new Merry-Go-Round on the melon grounds.

Mrs George Sucher elected vice president and Mrs Monroe Fossett named secretary and treasurer at the fourth annual Kness reunion at Old Mill park Savanna. A noon scrambled dinner followed by ice cream and a baseball game as the afternoon’s main event. Guests included Ralph Buffington Harper Me and family Wal ter Hummelman Evelyn Kness Kenneth Burke and many Kness relatives from Rockford Dixon Chadwick Lanark Polo Malvern and Lanark areas. Grandpa Kness, age 92, noted as the oldest member present.
A Melon Day gathering at the Thomson homes drew many visitors including Miss Ruby Doty of Savannah, Mr. Stanley Fuller of Freeport, Mr. Suimp Green of Sabula, Ilona, and families from Morrison Chadwick Galt Peru Ohio Fulton and other towns. Evening visitors included Adolph Peden and Laurence Peden and Margrete, Henman Timmons party, and Exa and Giblons.
Lawrence Stein was elected president of the Stein Reunion Group at the seventh annual meeting at Water Works Park Morrison Saturday. Frederick Getz of Mt Carroll was chosen vice president and Harry Ocken of Sterling was elected secretary and treasurer. The gathering noted one death, one birth, two marriages, and five members graduating from the fifth grade. Committee appointments were made for the 1933 picnic in Lawrence Park Sterling with details of refreshments and program.
