Frontier Days at the stock yards attracted a crowd last Saturday with real Western riding. A carload of horses was sold at a modest average, with farmers likely securing bargains. Bayard Lewis managed the sale for the owners and Hd. Most handled selling. Some buyers spent days transporting their purchases home. A next shipment is expected within a couple weeks featuring heavier horses suited for farming.

Obituary of Abel Martindale Pioneer Resident Dies in Iowa

Abel Martindale was born in Bedford Canada in 1832 and moved with his parents to White Side county Illinois in 1855. He settled on land later owned by Clint Waite, moved to Sauk County Wisconsin in 1867, retired to Thompson at age twenty, and lived twice married with three children from each union. Fifteen years ago he went to Independence Iowa to live with his oldest daughter Alzina Ranolds, where he died October 20, 1824, at age 92 years 2 days.

Accident injures team of mares on farm field

F A Steele suffered a severe farm accident when his black mares collided with a harrow left in weeds. One mare had deep leg wounds with an artery torn and ligament torn. Dr Elliott, a veterinarian, treated the injuries with multiple stitches.
